Welcome to Gympie South and thank you for visiting us through our brand new website. We certainly appreciate the interest you have taken in our school.

Gympie South, a Band Eight Primary School, services both the rapidly growing area of ‘Southside’, an urban area in the City of Gympie as well as the rural and semi rural areas to the west of Gympie.

‘South’s school community is diverse in make up and this diversity underpins the school’s strong focus on the individual, a personalisation of student learning, the elimination of barriers that impede participation and the provision of opportunities that enable personal and team growth.

We have a vibrant school community which extends from a very active P&C, which run the hugely successful Country Markets twice a month (a financial boon for our school) through to a dedicated, energetic and professional staff contributing to a host of additional, extra curricular opportunities for our students that make for a very inclusive school experience.

Our school utilises an effective Student Management Committee, an active Social Justice Committee structure and a representative Workplace Health & Safety Committee to ensure we have a safe and supportive school environment in which children’s learning is optimised. A Virtues Program is an example of the proactive nature of our support.

South’s facilities are ‘second to none’, with our own 25m swimming pool, Multi Purpose Hall, brand new Administration Building, expansive ovals, sporting facilities and landscaped grounds.

Our classrooms boast Air Conditioning, fridges in all classrooms, substantial Computer infrastructure, several life skill (kitchen areas) and pleasant learning environments.

On the curriculum front, as well as delivering structured mainstream learning opportunities, we also offer a range of activities that provide opportunities for student participation and enhancement of individual potential. These include a PE Talent I D Program, Lego, Chess & Skipping Clubs, Maths Extension classes, extensive Music program which includes Instrumental Music, Choral and Voice choirs, Percussion groups and a Drum Corp. Our ‘South Seniors’ Leadership program for our Year 7 students provides a successful, inclusive model for student leadership. Our Special Education Unit provides a wonderful service for children with disabilities.

‘Together We Make the Difference’, our school motto, certainly encapsulates life at ‘South’ and is very indicative of the Team culture and concerted effort our school community engages in to provide the best possible opportunities for our children.

Thanks for visiting ‘South’

Ian Wenzel
